Product Overview

Our onshore wind turbine is a horizontal-axis, three-bladed, upwind pitch-controlled variable-speed generator system. It adopts either doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) or direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) technology, with full-converter electrical system for stable grid output. The large rotor diameter and low cut-in wind speed make it especially suitable for inland plains, hills and coastal low-wind regions where traditional small rotors underperform.

The turbine consists of three main assemblies: rotor (blades + hub), nacelle (generator, gearbox / direct-drive, converter, control system) and tower (tubular steel or hybrid concrete-steel). We deliver complete wind farm EPC including wind masts / LiDAR measurement, micro-siting design, civil foundation, turbine erection, substation, transmission line and commissioning. The system can be hybridized with solar PV and battery storage to provide 24/7 renewable power for industrial parks, mining sites and remote communities.

Important: Wind farm economics depend critically on local wind resource. We require at least 6–12 months of on-site wind measurement data (or LiDAR survey) before final turbine sizing and project financial model. Design output figures are based on IEC 61400 class III conditions.

Wind Resource Requirements

Wind turbine output and project profitability are directly determined by local wind conditions. Below are the site selection criteria for our standard onshore turbines:

Parameter Minimum Viable Site Good Site Excellent Site
Annual Average Wind Speed (hub height) ≥ 5.5 m/s 6.5 – 7.5 m/s ≥ 8.0 m/s
Wind Power Density ≥ 200 W/m² 250 – 350 W/m² ≥ 400 W/m²
Capacity Factor (annual) 22 – 28% 30 – 38% ≥ 40%
Turbulence Intensity ≤ 16% ≤ 14% ≤ 12%
Extreme Wind (50-year return) ≤ 52.5 m/s ≤ 50 m/s ≤ 45 m/s
Temperature Range -20°C to +45°C -15°C to +40°C -10°C to +35°C
Terrain Open plain / gentle hill Ridge / coastal plain Coastal ridge / offshore-on-land
Site survey is mandatory: We recommend at least 6–12 months of on-site anemometer mast measurement or LiDAR survey before turbine selection. A 0.5 m/s difference in annual average wind speed can change annual energy production by 10–15%.

Investment Scale & Payback Period

Project Scale Typical Configuration EPC Total Investment Static Payback Period
Small Wind Farm 5 × 3 MW = 15 MW $18M – $24M 8–10 years (feed-in tariff); 6–8 years with PPA
Medium Wind Farm 10 × 4 MW = 40 MW $45M – $60M 7–9 years (PPA / grid sale)
Large Wind Farm 20 × 5 MW = 100 MW $110M – $140M 6–8 years (utility-scale PPA)
Hybrid Wind-Solar-BESS Wind + PV + storage +15–25% vs wind-only 7–9 years (off-grid / mine PPA premium)

Note: Investment includes turbine supply, civil foundation, erection, substation and 35kV transmission. Excludes land lease, permitting and grid-connection fee. Key economics: capacity factor, feed-in tariff / PPA price, O&M cost (typically 2–3% of CAPEX per year).

Typical Application Scenarios

  • Utility-Scale Wind Farm: Grid-connected wind power project selling electricity to national utility.
  • Industrial Behind-the-Meter Power: Factory / mining site self-generation under PPA, reduces grid electricity cost.
  • Hybrid Wind-Solar-BESS Microgrid: For remote mine, island or rural township where grid connection is costly or unreliable.
  • Agricultural Land Use: Wind turbines on farmland — farming continues underneath, dual land revenue.
  • Coastal / Ridge Wind Project: High-wind coastal ridge sites with strong consistent wind resource.
  • Repowering Project: Replace old 1.5MW turbines with new 4–5MW units on existing wind farm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What wind speed is required for the turbine to operate?+
Cut-in wind speed is 3 m/s (turbine starts generating). Rated power reaches at 10–12 m/s. The turbine shuts down at 22–25 m/s for protection. For viable project economics, annual average wind speed at hub height should be at least 5.5 m/s.

Q2: What is the capacity factor and how much energy does one turbine produce?+
For a typical 4MW turbine at a good site (7 m/s average, 32% capacity factor), annual output is about 11.2 GWh. At an excellent site (8 m/s, 40% CF), it reaches 14 GWh. At a marginal site (5.5 m/s, 25% CF), it drops to 8.8 GWh.

Q3: How long is the payback period?+
Typically 6–9 years for grid-connected wind farms with power purchase agreement. Without subsidy or PPA, marginal wind sites may extend to 10–12 years. Off-grid hybrid projects for mines often have shorter payback due to high diesel displacement value.

Q4: Can wind turbines be combined with solar and battery storage?+
Yes. Wind is strongest at night and winter, solar at day and summer — they complement each other. BESS smooths short-term fluctuation. This hybrid configuration is ideal for remote mining sites, islands and off-grid industrial parks.

Q5: How much land is needed per MW?+
Wind farm occupies about 2–3 hectares per MW total area (including access roads), but 95% of the land can still be used for farming, grazing or forestry. The turbine foundation itself only needs about 500–800 m².

Q6: What noise and bird concerns are there?+
Modern turbines produce about 105 dB(A) at the nacelle, but at 300m distance the noise drops to about 50 dB(A), similar to normal conversation. We provide noise and bird migration impact assessment as part of EIA for each project.

Q7: What is the design lifetime?+
20–25 years design lifetime. Major components (gearbox, generator) typically require overhaul at 10–15 years. Blades can last 20+ years with proper inspection.

Q8: Do you provide EPC or just turbine supply?+
We provide full EPC turn-key: wind measurement, micro-siting, turbine supply, civil works, erection, substation, grid connection, commissioning and 20-year O&M. We can also supply turbines only if you have your own EPC contractor.
