Biomass Gasifier

Industrial biomass gasifier converts solid biomass fuels such as wood chips, crop straw, palm husk and agricultural residues into low-calorific syngas. The produced syngas can be delivered to boilers for combustion to generate steam or hot air. It is widely used for coal-fired boiler renovation, food processing, timber drying, textile and building material heating. Adopting fixed-bed updraft technology, it supports automatic feeding and stable load adjustment, helping factories reduce fossil fuel cost and meet emission standards.

Product Overview

This industrial biomass gasifier adopts up-draft fixed-bed gasification technology. Solid biomass fuel is fed from the top, while gasification air enters from the bottom. Fuel gradually moves downward through drying, pyrolysis, reduction and oxidation zones, producing combustible syngas that exits from the upper part of the reactor. The syngas — composed mainly of CO, H₂, CH₄ and N₂ with heating value of 1000–1400 kcal/Nm³ — is directly piped to the existing boiler burner or industrial dryer, replacing coal, heavy oil or natural gas.

The reactor body is built from cast-iron modular sections with high-temperature refractory lining and stainless steel cladding, assembled on site without welding. It operates under negative pressure / atmospheric condition with water-sealed feeding and ash discharge, ensuring safe continuous 24-hour production. Siemens PLC automatically controls feeding rate, gasification temperature, pressure interlock and ash removal, requiring only minimal on-site labor.

Important: This gasifier is primarily designed for industrial heat and steam supply (boiler replacement, drying, curing). For power generation, syngas must pass through deep tar removal and cooling before entering gas engine or gas turbine. Fuel moisture should be controlled below 20% for stable operation.

Core Advantages

  • Direct Coal Boiler Replacement: Syngas burns in existing boiler burner, no need to replace the whole boiler — fast retrofit, low investment.
  • 72% High Efficiency: Up-draft fixed-bed design delivers stable gasification efficiency up to 72%, low fuel consumption per ton steam.
  • Cast-Iron Modular Assembly: Bolted cast-iron sections, no field welding, easy to transport, install, expand and repair.
  • Safe Negative-Pressure Operation: Water-sealed feeding & ash discharge, negative pressure inside furnace, no gas leakage, explosion-proof.
  • 50–110% Load Flexibility: Handles fluctuating steam demand smoothly, suitable for batch production lines.
  • 10–15 Year Long Life: Refractory + stainless steel construction, anti-corrosion, anti-oxidation, minimal wear parts.
  • Carbon-Neutral Fuel Cost Saving: Uses local agricultural waste, typically saves 30%+ steam cost vs. coal or natural gas.

Important Considerations

  • This unit is designed for heat & steam supply; power generation requires additional deep gas cleaning and engine/genset integration.
  • Fuel must be screened for size (typically 5–80 mm) and moisture (≤20%); metal, stone and plastic must be removed.
  • Tar content in raw syngas is higher in up-draft design — water scrubbing is required before burner / engine use.
  • Existing boiler must be reviewed for syngas burner compatibility; burner nozzle may need modification.
  • Flue gas emission must meet local environmental standard; bag filter or scrubber can be added on request.

Typical Application Scenarios

  • Coal-Fired Boiler Retrofit: Replace coal combustion with syngas in industrial boilers, reduce coal consumption and emissions.
  • Food & Beverage Processing: Steam supply for breweries, sugar mills, fruit processing, dairy and meat plants.
  • Wood & Timber Drying: Syngas directly heats dryer for lumber, furniture board, bamboo products.
  • Textile & Garment Industry: Steam for dyeing, sizing and finishing processes.
  • Building Materials: Heat for cement curing, brick drying, ceramic and gypsum board production.
  • Palm Oil & Agro-Industry: Uses palm kernel shell, empty fruit bunch and rice husk as fuel, self-supplied steam & electricity.
  • Power Generation (optional): After deep cleaning, syngas can feed gas engine or aero-derivative gas turbine for combined heat & power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Can this gasifier directly replace my existing coal boiler?+
Yes. The syngas is piped to the existing boiler burner and burned to produce steam. In most cases only the burner nozzle needs modification, the boiler body stays unchanged. This is the fastest and lowest-cost way to switch from coal to biomass.

Q2: What is the difference between up-draft and downdraft gasifier?+
Up-draft (our design) has higher thermal efficiency and handles wetter fuel, but produces more tar — ideal for direct combustion in boilers and dryers. Downdraft produces cleaner gas with less tar, better for engine power generation. We select the right type based on your end use.

Q3: What fuel can it burn?+
Wood chips, sawdust, crop straw, rice husk, palm kernel shell, coconut shell, biomass pellets and fruit branches. Fuel size should be 5–80 mm, moisture below 20%. Metal, stone, plastic and glass must be removed.

Q4: How much steam cost can I save?+
Typically 30%+ steam cost saving compared to coal, and 50%+ compared to natural gas or diesel, when local agricultural waste is available at low cost. Exact saving depends on local fuel price, boiler efficiency and labor cost. We provide a fuel balance and payback calculation for your project.

Q5: Is it safe to operate?+
Yes. The system operates under negative pressure induced by draft fan, so syngas never leaks outward. Feeding and ash discharge are water-sealed. Siemens PLC monitors temperature, pressure and gas concentration with automatic interlock and emergency flare venting.

Q6: Can it run 24 hours continuously?+
Yes. The up-draft fixed-bed design supports continuous 24-hour operation with automatic feeding and ash removal. Industrial reference projects run continuously for months with scheduled weekly maintenance.

Q7: Can syngas be used for power generation?+
Yes, but requires additional deep tar removal, cooling and filtration before entering gas engine or gas turbine. For power projects we recommend a downdraft or fluidized bed gasifier with full cleaning train, paired with our 7MW / 25MW aero-derivative gas turbine for large-scale CCHP.

Q8: What is included in your EPC scope?+
Fuel survey, boiler compatibility review, gasifier island, gas cleaning, piping, burner modification, PLC control, installation guidance, commissioning and operator training. We can also supply equipment-only if you have local installation partner.
